So been messing around in the kitchen and creating some lovely new desserts (watch this space), so this was a perfect chance to mix this good stuff in with, you guessed it, RUM! I made a beautiful custard apple ice cream with fresh ingredients. This will be used in the cocktail. You can of course skip making and purchase a lovely vanilla type ice cream to compliment this cocktail. I also enjoyed the laborious task of making my very own chocolate, straight from the pod! You can see the pod shell in the pic, I dried it off when I removed the fruits. Took me a week and yes, I also used it in this dessert, again you can purchase a wonderful dark chocolate bar to use. You will learn over time I do things the average person does not, (check my prickle pear flotaa cocktail lol)
I have 2 rums to use in this recipe, but 1 is optional. The main rum is Ron Abuelo Anejo Blanco Panama rum. This is a very light rum with vanilla and sweet notes, as I wanted something not too overpowering, and compliment the lovely chocolate and ice cream experience with a little rummy kick. Of course a silky drizzle of El Dorado Original Rum Cream Liqueur just tops off this delish dessert cocktail wonderfully, however this step is optional and works just as well without, but if you can, you should lol
And now, good folks, on to the recipe!
Ingredients List.
- hot chocolate
- agave or honey to sweeten hot chocolate
- bar of dark chocolate
- a light rum, I used Ron Abuelo Anejo Blanco
- cream rum, I am using El Dorado Original Rum Cream Liqueur
- ice cream, I am using custard apple ice cream, you can use a light vanilla type ice cream, whatever you fancy and have at hand will work.
- cinnamon to sprinkle on top and a cinnamon stick to garnish (optional)
Prep work
- make your hot chocolate, this will work well with water or milk. I used water as the ice cream will add the creaminess.
- add your sweeter of choice to get the hot chocolate tasting how you want. I used about 2 tablespoons of agave
- mix in your light rum to preferred taste, I used 1 fl oz Ron Abuelo Anejo Blanco
- next get your mug to drink from and add 2-3 generous dollops of ice cream, YUM!
- now pour in your hot chocolate rum to fill cup
- OPTIONAL: get a tablespoon and, if using your rum cream, drizzle some round the top of the cup and let sink in. I used El Dorado Original Rum Cream Liqueur
- OPTIONAL_ chop or shave some dark chocolate bar into your cup
- OPTIONAL: sprinkle some cinnamon powder or a cinnamon stick into your cup
And now, grab a spoon, or sip away. The pure creamy bliss of the chocolate shavings that melt in as you sip the creamy chocy rummy cocktaily dessert, lol Enjoy
