Some rums are great and some need just a little tweaking to elevate them just a little bit more to elevate the sipping or cocktail experience. Not one to rest on previous works. Master blender Trudiann Branker redeveloped Mount Gay’s white rum recipe in 2020. Silver is made from a blend of pot and column still rums.
Trudiann used unaged rum for the column still component, and blended that with a rum aged for two years in former American whiskey casks for the pot still portion. A common technique used to strip rum of its colour was also used, double-filtration using charcoal removes the classic golden or caramel colouring, the finish results in a smoother finish than the previous blend.
So what can you expect from its taste profile? Citrus, pineapple and toffee on the nose, with grapefruit, butterscotch and cane on the palate. Sounds like a winner to us. Now bartenders here in the UK (& US) can enjoy creating classic white rum cocktails as it will be available here in certain outlets.
