A rum punch is a widely popular cocktail that embodies the flavours of the tropics, especially the Caribbean. Many people have a traditional family secret recipe, but today we will share how you too can make an awesome rum that packs a fruity punch!!!
The history of the rum punch dates back as far as the 17th century when sailors and explorers brought a mix of alcohol, citrus, sugar and spices from India. Said to be derived from the Hindi word “panch” meaning 5, punch typically incorporates five key ingredients. As the British East Indian Company expanded trade, rum punch gained popularity in Europe and recipes diversified to Caribbean, Rum punch blended locally produced rum with tropical flavours. The concoction thrived, evolving into a global cocktail. Excerpt Rum A Tasting course.
