Many a great cocktail calls for a wonderful Cuban rum, so it’s only right we give you 3 to discover and start you on your way to discovering the Cuban rum category. So what makes Cuban rum unique? Well according to Ian Burrell the Global Rum Ambassador’s book, Rum, a tasting course, he says:
“There are strict guidelines for what defines a Cuban rum. It must use 100% Cuban sugarcane and molasses, be distilled by column still only, age for a minimum of 2 years in American oak and have a maximum bottle strength of 45%ABV. Different regions will also give you different flavours and experiences.”

- LA PROGRESIVA DE VIGIA MEZCLA 13:
One of the oldest Cuban rums, La Progresiva is crafted from sugar cane grown in the red soil of Ciego de Avila, where rum has been produced since 1577! Created by a team of master blenders. With an alcohol content of 41% vol, aged between 11-15 years. Tasting Notes: pear, prunes and dried citrus zests, with light oak, cayenne pepper and dark chocolate. This dark rum, matured in ex-Bourbon barrels, showcases the rich natural flavours of Cuba. Tasting notes: 40% ABV, aromatic tobacco, sweet tropical fruits, molasses, spices, and vanilla from the continuous ageing process, enhanced by the slow release of aromas. Rum Cuba – a rum made for the people in the heart of Cuba. Known locally as the “Pearl of the Cuban Rums”. Aged in North American White Oak in ex-whisky barrels for 10 years. Tasting notes: 40% ABV.
