A wonderful taste of something exotic, fruity and refreshing. This flotaa (flo-tay, my name for a juicy versatile cocktail) cocktail was created as I experimented with various juicy fruits for a lovely versatile drink for yourself or guests that would like a cocktail experience with or without the use of alcohol. You simply make the same batch of base ingredient and omit the rum from the non alcohol cocktail glass, then add your own measure of rum for those that want to enjoy the full spectrum cocktail experience.
This recipe does call for the use of a blender to create a purée with the fruits.
First, you will need to cut the 3 prickle pears in half and scoop out the contents. CAUTION. Wash your pears first with gloves if you think there are any hairs on the pears, these are not pleasant to get stuck in your hands, TRUST ME!

This ingredient list makes about 3 glasses (using glass as above)
Ingredients List.
- Blender & strainer for the fruit seeds.
- Hawksbill Mango Peel Rum 1.5 fl oz
- Fresh Key Limes: 1 & ½ (use according to zest taste preference)
- Fresh mango 1/4
- Apple 1/2 (take seeds out)
- Ice cubes: As needed to make drink nice and cold
- Seeded dark grapes: approx 10
- Pure Honey (I used African wild honey) : 2-3 TBL spoons
- Garnish: Fresh lime wheel Optional
Instructions (adjust taste to your desire with chosen ingredients or sweet syrups)
- First add prickle pear flesh and grapes to the blender with a little measure of water so it blends smooth and does not dilute the fruit too much. Then strain pulp into a bowl. You will then add the juice back into the blender for part 2.
- Add all ingredients with ice, besides rum (leave till you get the purée tasting how you enjoy it). Blend up all ingredients. Taste to see if any more lime juice, ice or sweeter needs added.
- If using without alcohol, pour this serve first.
- Now you can add the rum, taste and adjust to your desired strength and flavour. Pour into a margarita glass or stylish style glass with ice.
- I squeezed a small amount of lime juice on top and rimmed the glass with lime also (this is optional)
- Garnish with a slice of mango or lime wheel if desired or leave decoration… Enjoy!
