I know that cold snap and sudden weather change has licked you on the way out the door to work or whatever venture drags you out into the fast approaching winter days!!!! So, if like me, you are starting to feel hibernation mode and the need to just close the door and cosy up, this delightful warming spiced rum tea will warm the winter chill and perk up your mood for a relaxed evening in.
The ginger, honey and spices will also keep you in good steed for any lurking seasonal sneezes!
Ingredients (makes 2 cups)
2 ½ cups brewed tea (your choice) experiment with fruit teas or black tea.
3 ounces dark rum (your choice)
2 teaspoons agave nectar or good quality honey
2 slices orange (fresh or dried)
2 thick peeled slices fresh ginger
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (fresh if possible)
Instructions
In a saucepan set cooker hob to medium setting, add the teabags of choice, dark rum, orange slices, ginger and nutmeg, you can also experiment with clove, cinnamon etc.
Heat the mixture and simmer for 15 minutes. Turn off heat and let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes. Now add your sweeter of choice, honey, agave, date sugar etc (adjust taste to your liking)
You can remove the orange and ginger slices if desired, but I like to have the flavours get stronger as I reach the bottom of the tea cup (or is that just me? Lol) and pour into 2 cups and enjoy. If you have one of those herb pots you can leave any remaining in there for later or a keep the pot if only serving 1 cup and warm up when ready for round 2!
