October is a great season to experiment with seasonal produce. Pumpkins are a staple in many a Caribbean kitchen, so teaming it with rum is a no-brainer. Rather than use this orange root veg in your food pot, why not try it in a cocktail!
The great thing about pumpkin, is they have a really mild sweet flavour, so they are versatile in both sweet and savoury recipes.
So, let’s make a spicy Dark & Stormy rum cocktail, a classic rum cocktail usually made of dark rum, ginger beer, and fresh lime juice. So this recipe is obviously a festive pumpkin twist with orange juice.
Ingredients List. You will also need a cocktail shaker and strainer.
- Aged or dark rum: 1 ½ oz dark rum
- Fresh Lime juice: ½ oz
- Orange juice: ½ oz
- Ice cubes: As needed
- Ginger Beer: top up glass as needed (depending on glass size)
- Pumpkin purée: 2 TBL spoons
- Garnish: orange peel or wheel, cinnamon and nutmeg (grated) Optional
Instructions (adjust taste to your desire with chosen ingredients or sweet syrups)
- Add all ingredients, besides ginger beer and garnish, to a shaker with ice
- pour into a tall glass or festive style glass with ice.
- Top up glass with ginger beer and sprinkle over a pinch of nutmeg
- Garnish with a slice of orange if desired or decorate with cinnamon stick…Enjoy!
